Paul Cannon
Journalist/Filmmaker/Storyteller of the heartland
Paul Cannon is an investigative journalist and filmmaker based in Kansas City, known for his penetrating investigative reporting, heartfelt storytelling, and unwavering commitment to social reform. A Kansas State University alumnus, Paul overcame early challenges with ADHD and dyslexia to excel academically, even completing graduate-level coursework in journalism. His early career included an impactful internship with K-State's Sports Information Department, where he honed his discipline and attention to detail principles inspired by the University's legendary football coach, Bill Snyder.  With over a decade of experience in journalism, Paul has carved out a niche telling stories of underserved communities, most recently focusing on historical and economic disparities east of Troost Avenue. This street reflects the redlining of African Americans.  His reporting blends rigorous data analysis with on-the-ground insight, gathered partly through volunteer work in places like Thelma's Kitchen.
He is also the co-founder of Be Kind Films, a production company rooted in love, legacy, and social conscience.  Through film, Paul explores intimate human narratives, most recently, a project centered on a couple's emotional journey in a hotel room, offering raw, reflective portrayals that resonate with audiences.
With a voice trained by years of auditory learning and inspired by NPR journalist Ari Shapiro, Paul brings empathy, precision, and a strong ethical foundation to every piece he creates.  Financially independent, intellectually driven, and guided by purpose over prestige, Paul's mission is to build, not just consume and leave a legacy of meaningful impact through words, visuals, and human connection.
